Riga Food medals distributed

During the International Food Fair “Riga Food 2013”, food manufacturers and technologists competed for the Riga Food 2013 medals at the Premium Quality Food. The Award Ceremony took place during the Riga Food 2013 Official Opening on 4 September.

Best dairy products singled out

Latvian Central Union of Dairy Farmers, a cooperative society, in conjoint with the International Exhibition Company BT 1 held the competition of premium quality fresh and processed cheese, glazed curd cheese, skimmed milk curd, drinking youghurt and high quality butter.

Butter competition was open to the manufacturers of sweet and sour cream butter with the content of milk fats not less than 80%, maximum water content of 16% and the content of fatless dry matter up to 2%. The 1st place, the Riga Food 2013 gold medal, the money prize of LVL 70 and the Certificate of Achievement went to the sweet cream butter of Starupe PKS (technologist – Gunta Tetere); the 2nd place, silver medal, money prize of LVL 50 and Certificate of Achievement to the sweet cream butter of Tukuma piens AS (technologist – Ārija Kanberga); the 3rd place, bronze medal, money prize of LVL 30 and Certificate of Achievement to the sour cream butter of Krāslavas piens AS (technologist – Svetlana Račicka).

Cheese competition gathered manufacturers of curd-based processed and fresh cheese. The 1st place, Riga Food 2013 gold medal, money prize of LVL 70 and Certificate of Achievement in the processed cheese category was awarded to the processed cheese with king bolete of Rīgas piensaimnieks SIA (technologist – Inga Čikule); the 2nd place, silver medal, money prize of LVL 50 and Certificate of Achievement – processed cheese “Čedariņš” of Latgales piens AS (technologist – Larisa Grigorjeva); the 3rd place, bronze medal, money prize ofLVL 30 and Certificate of Achievement – processed cheese with natural capelin roe of Smiltenes piens AS (technologist – Vita Puriņa).

In the fresh cheese category the 1st place, Riga Food 2013 gold medal, money prize of LVL 70 and Certificate of Achievement was awarded to the fresh classic cheese with sun-dried tomatoes and herbs “Limbažu piens” of Rīgas Piena kombināts AS (technologist – Jeļena Kantāne); the 2nd place, silver medal, money prize of LVL 50 and Certificate of Achievement  – fresh cheese with paprika and chilli of Rīgas piensaimnieks SIA (technologist – Daiga Straume); the 3rd place, bronze medal, money prize ofLVL 30 and Certificate of Achievement – fresh cheese with herbs Latgales piensAS (technologist – Ludmila Čepelova).

Curd competition determined the Latvian made skimmed milk curd with fat content 5%. The 1st place, Riga Food 2013 gold medal, money prize of LVL 70 and Certificate of Achievement was awarded to the skimmed milk curd of Smiltenes piens AS (technologist – Maija Bērziņa); the 2nd place, silver medal, money prize of LVL 50 and Certificate of Achievement – skimmed milk curd of Straupe PKS (technologist – Gunta Tetere); the 3rd place, bronze medal, money prize ofLVL 30 and Certificate of Achievement – skimmed milk curd of Valmieras piens AS (technologist – Aina Birnbauma).

Drinking yoghurt competition singled out the best Latvian-made yoghurt with fat content to 2 % and fat content from 2–4 %. According to the data of the Latvian Central Union of Dairy Farmers, Latvia produced 7500 tons of yoghurt in 2012. The 1st place, Riga Food 2013 gold medal, money prize of LVL 70 and Certificate of Achievement was awarded to the bilberry yoghurt “Oga” of Tukuma piens AS (technologist – Agita Vāne); the 2nd place, silver medal, money prize of LVL 50 and Certificate of Achievement – peach flavour drinking yoghurt of Valmieras piens AS (technologist – Emīlija Lapa);  the 3rd place, bronze medal, money prize ofLVL 30 and Certificate of Achievement – drinking yoghurt without additives of Straupe PKS (technologist – Gunta Tetere).

Glazed curd cheese competition singled out the best of sweet curd treats. The 1st place, Riga Food 2013 gold medal, money prize of LVL 70 and Certificate of Achievement was awarded to the glazed curd cheese “Skudru pūznis” of Tukuma piens AS (technologist – Andželika Ločmele);  the 2nd place, silver medal, money prize of LVL 50 and Certificate of Achievement – glazed curd cheese with caramel of Rīgas piensaimnieks SIA (technologist –  Ieva Bērziņa); the 3rd place, bronze medal, money prize ofLVL 30 and Certificate of Achievement – glazed curd cheese with vanilla of Tukuma piens AS (technologist – Andželika Ločmele).
