Best Dairy Products will be Announced at Riga Food 2017!

To promote the everyday consumption of dairy products and to show how many healthy products Latvian dairy processing companies and dairy masters produce, constantly offering ever new tastes, the winners of the competition for high-quality dairy products produced in Latvia will be announced and awarded during the International Food Fair “Riga Food 2017” on 6 September.

The best dairy products in the categories “New product of the year” and “Sour cream with a fat content of 20%” were determined in the competition of high-quality dairy products produced in Latvia this year.

“We want to highlight the new products created over last year. The emphasis is on new, yet unprecedented flavour combinations, identification and promotion of innovative products to make new products more popular among consumers. We must do our utmost to make consumers more aware of novelties in the dairy industry. Moreover, the changes to the Competition Rules this year stipulate that the competition is only open to the members of Latvian Central Union of Dairy Producers (LPCS) and affiliated companies registered and operating in Latvia,” told Jānis Šolks, a chairman of LPCS.

Panel of Judges

This year the panel of judges is chaired by Inga Ciproviča, Assoc. prof.,, Dean of the Faculty of Food Technology, Latvia University of Agriculture. Other judges – Jānis Šolks, Chairman of LPCS Board, Inese Ozollapa, Senior Expert at Quality Division, Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment BIOR, Daina Podskočija, Senior Expert at Senior Expert of the Chemistry Division of BIOR, Zeltīte Skalberga, Senior Expert at the Animal Products Manufacturing Surveillance Department, Food and Veterinary Service, Dace Freimane, Head of the Common Organisation and Market Division, Market and Direct Support Department, Ministry of Agriculture, Lolita Neimane, a dietitian, head of the academic master’s study programme “Nutrition Science”, Riga Stradins University, Dace Grava, Head of the Process and Quality Department at SIA Maxima Latvia, Māra Tamane, Quality Manager at SIA Rimi Latvia.


The winners of the competition will be announced immediately after the official opening ceremony of the International Food Fair “Riga Food 2017” in the Conference Room No. 3 on 6 September and will receive the Riga Food 2017 medals and LPCS Appreciation Certificates.

Riga Food 2016 revisited

Last year, dairy products were evaluated in six categories: kefir with a 1.5–3.0% fat content, curd with a 9% fat content, sour cream with a 20% fat content, high-quality butter, matured Dutch semi-hard cheese and the 2015/2016 new product in two categories – fermented milk products and cheeses, including thermised, processed and smoked products. The competition is held by the Latvian Central Union of Dairy Farmers (LPCS) in cooperation with the International Exhibition Company BT 1 and financially supported by the Ministry of Agriculture.
